Payout Guide

mentor.sh offers two primary methods for mentors to receive payments: Stripe Connect and Direct Bank Transfer via Borderless. Below is an overview of each method, including payout timelines and fee structures.

Stripe Connect

Upon a mentee's payment, a new charge will appear in your Stripe account. Stripe typically processes payouts within 7 days. Some countries benefit from accelerated payouts (3 days) or even instant payouts.

Example Breakdown:

• Mentor's Rate: $100
• Platform Fee (20%): -$20
• Stripe Fee (approximately 2.9% + $0.30): -$3.20
• Final Payout: $76.80

Note: The platform fee is added on top of the mentor's rate and paid by the mentee. The Stripe fee is deducted from the total amount before it reaches your account.

Direct Bank Transfer via Borderless

For mentors opting for direct bank transfers, payouts are processed monthly using Borderless. Transactions from the previous month are consolidated into a single payment. The final payout amount is influenced by:

• Successfully Processed Payments: Total payments received from mentees.
• Credit Card Processing Fees: Typically 2-3% per transaction.
• Currency Conversion Fees: Applicable if transactions involve different currencies.
• Platform Fee: As outlined in the mentor.sh fee structure.

• Mentor's Rate: $100

• Credit Card Fee (3%): -$3
• Subtotal: $77
• Borderless Transfer Fee (varies by country, e.g., $5): -$5
• Final Payout: $72

Note: Transfer fees via Borderless depend on the payout amount and destination country, typically around 2% with a minimum fee ranging between $4 to $8.
